Present Continuous Tense in Urdu
Present continuous tense is also called present progressive tense. Learning this tense, you will be able to make English sentences while talking about continuous actions of the present (something going on in the present). Continuous tense takes “ing form of the verb” and helping verbs “is,are,am” according to the subject.
Present Continuous Tense in Urdu with Examples
Present continuous tense is used to talk about ongoing actions in the present.
فعل حال جاری کوہم موجودہ وقت میں جاری کاموں کے لئے استعمال کرتے ہیں۔
اردو پہچان: رہا ہے، رہی ہے، رہا ہوں، رہے ہو، ، رہے ہیں وغیرہ۔
Helping Verbs and Form of Verb
Helping Verbs: is, are, am
Form of Verb: 1st form + ing
Note: we use helping verb “is” with singular subjects (he, she, it) and singular subjects” we use “are” with plural subjects (they, we, you and plural subjects) and “am” with (I).
Affirmative/Simple Sentences – سادہ فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ
Formula: Subject + Helping Verb (is/are/am) + Ing form + Object + .
| He is reading a book. | وہ ایک کتاب پڑھ رہا ہے۔ |
| They are watching movie. | وہ فلم دیکھ رہے ہیں۔ |
| You are learning English. | آپ انگریزی سیکھ رہے ہیں۔ |
| She is writing a letter. | وہ خط لکھ رہی ہے۔ |
| We are teaching English. | ہم انگریزی پڑھا رہے ہیں۔ |
| She is waiting for you. | وہ آپ کا انتظار کررہی ہے۔ |
| They are painting the room. | وہ کمرے کو پینٹ کر رہے ہیں۔ |
| You are teasing me. | تم مجھے چھیڑ رہے ہو۔ |
| I am using mobile. | میں موبائل استعمال کر رہا ہوں۔ |
| He is cooking food. | وہ کھانا بنا رہا ہے۔ |
Negative Sentences – منفی فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ
Formula: Subject + Helping Verb (is/are/am) + Not + Ing form + Object + .
Note: we can make negative sentences of present continuous tense by only making a little change of adding “not” after the helping in positive sentences.
| They are not reading a book. | وہ کوئی کتاب نہیں پڑھ رہے ہیں۔ |
| She is not speaking English. | وہ انگریزی نہیں بول رہی ہے۔ |
| We are not cooking food. | ہم کھانا نہیں پکا رہے ہیں۔ |
| She is not eating a mango. | وہ آم نہیں کھا رہی ہے۔ |
| He is not writing a book. | وہ کتاب نہیں لکھ رہا ہے۔ |
| They are not driving a car. | وہ گاڑی نہیں چلارہے ہیں۔ |
| Akram is not telling a lie. | کرم جھوٹ نہیں بول رہا۔ |
| She is not making tea. | وہ چائے نہیں بنا رہی۔ |
| I am not teaching the students. | میں طلباء کو نہیں پڑھا رہا ہوں۔ |
| He is not using the phone. | وہ فون استعمال نہیں کر رہا ہے۔ |
Interrogative Sentences – سوالیہ فقرات بنانے کا طریقہ
Formula: Helping Verb (is/are/am) + Subject + Ing form + Object + .
Note: We can simply make interrogative sentences of present continuous tense by adding helping verb at the beginning of the sentence and a question mark (?) at the end of the sentences.
| Is he going to school? | کیا وہ سکول جا رہا ہے؟ |
| Is he reading a book? | کیا وہ کتاب پڑھ رہا ہے؟ |
| Are you watching a movie? | کیا آپ فلم دیکھ رہے ہیں؟ |

Usages of Present Continuous Tense – فعل حال جاری کے مختلف استعمالات
Present Continuous Tense is used in different situations for different purpose. Below we have described the different usages of present continuous tense.
1. Actions that are happening now.
We can use present continuous tense to describe immediate actions happening in the present.
ہم فعل حال جاری کورونما ہونے والے فوری کاموں کے وضاحت کے لئےاستعمال کرتے ہیں۔
I am going to school.
میں سکول جارہاہوں۔
They are fighting.
وہ لڑرہے ہیں۔
2. Those actions which are in progress, but not in front of eyes.
وہ کام جو جاری ہے مگر ہمارے آنکھوں کےسامنے نہیں۔
I am teaching English.
میں انگلش پڑھ رہا ہوں۔
She is doing masters.
وہ ماسٹرز کررہی ہے۔
3. A new pattern or habit.
A really interesting way of using the present continuous tense is to describe events or actions that are new and different from events in the past. In this case, the tense can be used to describe the contrast between the old and new.
فعل حال جاری کو استعمال کرنے کا واقعی ایک دلچسپ طریقہ یہ ہے کہ وہ واقعات یا کام بیان کریں جو ماضی کے واقعات سے نئے اور مختلف ہیں۔ زمانہ کو پُرانے اور نئے کے درمیان فرق اُجاگرکرنے کے لئے استعمال کیا جاسکتا ہے۔
These days, people are writing emails.
آج کل لوگ ای میل زیادہ استعمال کررہے ہیں۔
